Honey or Honai?

Let's count 1, 2 and 3. Yes, this is the third Indonesian traditional house in our blog, Honai House! Without any further, let's see what Honai House is
Honai house is Papua traditional house which is being occupied by Dani tribe. Dani tribe is an old tribe that exist in Papua beside Asmat tribe. Honai house is formed by woods with cone roof that is composed by straws.
Honai house has a very small door and it doesn't have any window. Actually, there is reason why Dani tribe build a house with small size. That's because this small house without windows will protect Dani tribes from cold air.

Honai house consist of 2 floors!! Can you imagine this small house consist of 2 floors? This is the special ability of Dani house in architecture. First floor is used for sleep and the second floor is used for relax, eat, and others family activities. Honai house's height is only 2,5 meters and it has middle part which is used for bonfire.
Still can't believe that Honai house has 2 floors? Just see and come. You will see how indigenous people can't be undermined in the aspect of art intelligence.


Other side of Jakarta: its traditional house!

Most of people will think about a luxury city when they read the word "Jakarta" but actually there's other side that you should know about the capital city of Indonesia. If most of people often see a lot of great houses in Jakarta. Actually, there is more unique house called Kebaya House. It is the name of Betawi traditional house. Here are some description of it.

Kebaya House has a very simple architecture with a rectangular ground. Since Betawian still use Kebaya house as their residence, it has the same parts and rooms like common house. There are living room, bedroom, kitchen, veranda, bathroom, etc. So what makes this house so special? The most prominent part of this house is its roof. It has shape that looks like a shield and it has additional little roof to prevent the rain splashes.
Overall, Kebaya House is composed by bamboo and woods.

On the other side, Betawian use the veranda to serve the guests. It reflects the hospitality of Betawi people. So for you who wants to visit Indonesia, you must see this Kebaya house and meet Betawian so you can feel the real hospitality that you might not get in another part of the world.

Bengkulu Traditional House

Hello the world! We choose Bengkulu to start our journey on this blog. Well, here we goooo
In Bengkulu Malayan language, the residence is called “Rumah”. Traditional house of Bengkulu is included as stage house model. The architecture is formed to protect its owner from flood. Besides that, the lower part of this house has function as place to save wagon, harvests, agriculture equipment, woods, and also the cage of animals.



Bengkulu’s traditional house has some parts. They are:
1.       Upper Part
The upper part of house is formed by:
a.       Roof: from fibers, bamboo, or zinc
b.      Bubungan: bubungan has some kind of shapes. They are
a.       1. Bubungan Lima
a.       2. Bubungan Limas
a.       3. Bubungan Haji (bubungan Sembilan)
a.       4. Bubungan Jembatan
a.       5. The combination of bubungan Lima and bubungan Jembatan
c.       Pacu: is ceiling that is created from plank (Sera)
d.      Peran: is the block which is connected the plank at the ceiling


2.       Middle part
a.       Sills
b.      Walls: the walls has animals and plants carving
c.       Windows
d.      Door
e.      Tulusi (ventilation): is usually placed in the upper of door or windows
f.        Pillars: has function as house’s cantilever
g.       Bendu: the block that across on the wall

3.       Lower part
a.       Floor: from plank or bamboo
b.      Talian: medium plank which has function as a place to put the plank for floor
c.       Blandar: the cantilever of talian
d.      Bidai: is a very thick bamboo that placed in the lower part of floor to protect the owner of rival’s jab.
e.      Lapik tiang: the stone foundation of house
f.        The stairs
